Install Webmin Control Panel to Manage Linux Web Server

Most people like to use Windows because it provides a user friendly Graphic User Interface (GUI). The users do not need to type commands to accomplish a lot of tasks. Unix based platforms (include linux), on the other hands, are usually require to type a lot of commands. That’s why most people are unwilling to use linux platform, despite the fact that it’s free, more secure and more stable than Windows.

Today, I am going to introduce a program with beautiful GUI to manage your Linux web server. The name of this program is called Webmin. Webmin provide a easy and simple GUI to manage your Linux web server. Moreover Webmin is free.

Let’s install Webmin and see how it works.

Step 1: Download Webmin.

Visit homepage of Webmin.com and find the download page of Webmin. There are two methods for the installation:

  1. Download the Webmin software and save in your server. Then install the program.
  2. Install the Webmin program directly from the download link.

Let’s try to use the second method to install Webmin.

The download URL on the website of Webmin can be found at:

http://aleron.dl.sourceforge.net/sourceforge/webadmin/webmin-1.140-1.noarch.rpm

Note: 
The latest version of Webmin is 1.140 by the time of writing this tutorial.

Step 2: Start Install Webmin

Open any SSH software, for example Putty. Login to the Linux server. Install the Webmin by using rpm command as shown below:

login as: root
Sent username “root”
root@192.168.1.3’s password:

[root@pclinux root]# rpm -ivh http://aleron.dl.sourceforge.net/sourceforge/webadmin/webmin-1.140-1.noarch.rpm
